Character and Religion

Character and Religion

"I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!"- Sir Martin Luther King Jr. on 28/08/1963

From the ancient time religion has remained part of character. People were known from their character, habits and morality but now religion has taken the shape and become character itself.

Religion itself is a path which cannot be completed or achieved w/o walk. One is brought-up under particular religious environment. The character- building follows up accordingly. For me, the character building is started from day one of life and religion subsequently follows the step. A man is product of character not of a religion. Religion chooses us at the time of birth and we follow it righteously but we choose our character. Religion-being a path its effects can be noticed from the initial stages but impact of character can be felt from the growth of character. The character progresses with the following the principles and basic concepts of normal living. A character is the reflection of one’s inner self. It comes out after many grinding and struggles with self. A character can converts one in saint and religious. A religion may not make every one saint but shows the path to transform.

I have observed on various FB groups/pages that they speak about one religion-one god. I feel that they should speak this about character- an adorable character who can have the lap of god. All the saints/ sages/ angels/ avatar’s/ lords have one thing common i.e. their well knitted strong character. It has made them our ideal/ idol/ messenger even after thousands of years from their appearance in our life. The character which they carried naturally, effortlessly and smiling has become our philosophy of life, a path to walk upon, bliss in our day to day life. Fortunately we have at present more than 6 billion lives as concept of life moving on this globe. Learn and update from them. That what is called choose wisely and follow blindly.

All the good men have shown us a path which was not defined in their ancestors’ path. A religion can guide the character but not the wholesome of a character. A character can make one strong or weak according to one’s choice, priorities and temporary needs.

A religious man can be condemned for his acts or omissions but a strong head character cannot be.

A diminishing changing of character is bigger issue than change of path. It must be taken care of. A character generates, explores and develops the human being. A human being must be cautious while choosing buds for his character because that is going to nurture his future generations.  A religion/ spirituality may wait for you but positive change in character may occur in this moment.

A religion is leveled at the time of birth but a character cannot be leveled till seen in personality. A religion may wait for your progress but character shall not as with the passage of time it would be molded in habits. A child is known by his attitude, habits and bring ship. A religion is known by its preaching, teachings and by its followers and a character is known by controlling desires, lust, greed and forgiveness.

A thief is thief because of his nature and act. He is existed in all religions because it is his characteristic. A religion tells that one should not indulge in sin but a character strongly forbids one to do so. A thief may be religious but a strong character cannot be a thief. That is why we have fewer thieves and more givers.

What a strange thing despite knowing this, we still tag a person with his religion rather than his character.

I may be criticized a thousand times by the religion but I wish not to be cursed by the character. My actual path is defined along the road of character.

What if it would be better if we give the importance to a person by his character rather than his belief or faith then this world would be better place to live?

Always remember even a brick from the character-building shall not be got loose otherwise the whole character would shatter including of path of religion. The building may be mended but the marks would always be there.
